The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), in collaboration with Wisconsin State Fair Park officials, has announced the temporary closure of a section of the Hank Aaron State Trail during the 2025 Wisconsin State Fair. The closure will occur between S. 76th St. and S. 84th St., aligning with the fair dates from July 31 to August 10, 2025.
The trail runs east/west and crosses over State Fair Park north of W. Schlinger Ave., west of the park, Fifth Street within the park, and W. Pierce St. east of the park. In recent years, measures such as metal detectors at entrances, secure fencing, bag size restrictions, and reconfigured gates have been implemented to enhance security around the fairgrounds.
John Yingling, Chairman of the Wisconsin State Fair Park Board of Directors, stated: "While we understand the challenges this causes for trail users, I believe this is a necessary security measure that will help to ensure the safety of our fairgoers, exhibitors, vendors, operators and staff."
Alternative routes are available for trail users during this period. Signage will be posted on the trail before its closure on July 31 at 8 a.m., providing information about alternate routes. Additional striping for bike lanes will also be added on North St. (Adler) near key areas around the fairground.
For further details or concerns regarding this closure, individuals can contact State Fair Park Police at 414-519-7324.
The Wisconsin State Fair offers numerous attractions including free entertainment stages, rides in SpinCity, animal exhibits, family activities, shopping vendors and culinary experiences from July 31 to August 10.
