Oak Bank in Fitchburg is marking its 25th anniversary, highlighting a business model focused on personal relationships and community involvement rather than expansion through multiple branches. Since opening in 2000, the bank has operated from a single location, serving hundreds of local businesses and families across Dane County.

“It’s really not about the number of branches,” said executive chairman and founder Bob Gorsuch. “It’s about the people who stick around, develop strong relationships, and get involved in their communities.”

This approach has set Oak Bank apart from competitors that have chosen to expand regionally or merge with larger institutions. The bank has grown into a half-a-billion-dollar institution by emphasizing trust, accessibility, and personalized service.

“When you call us, you talk to a real person—someone who knows your name and your business,” said Oak Bank President & CEO Terry Taylor. “That’s not a tagline—it’s our culture. Oak Bank is powered by people who live here, care about this community, and show up for it every day. That’s what makes us different, and it’s what makes this 25-year milestone so meaningful.”

Oak Bank staff participate in various local organizations including nonprofits, schools, libraries, and neighborhood projects. The bank supports the community through sponsorships of park programs and volunteering at events.

“When we started, we saw so much potential in Fitchburg,” Gorsuch said. “We wanted to serve that area with a unique focus on relationships and problem-solving. And once we proved that model, we were able to serve clients throughout Dane County and beyond, with just one branch.”

The bank plans to celebrate its anniversary with an event at its lobby on August 14.
