Jamie Acton has been named the new General Manager for Metro Transit, according to an announcement from Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway. Acton will assume her role on October 13, bringing over 15 years of experience in public transit leadership and planning.
Most recently, Acton served as Director of Planning and Program Development for the Federal Transit Administration's Region 10. In that position, she oversaw multimodal projects and managed grants across Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington.
“We are seeing great results with the implementation of Bus Rapid Transit and the other infrastructure updates that have recently come online,” said Mayor Rhodes-Conway. “Jamie is highly qualified to build off that success as we continue to improve our public transportation network and work with local partners and neighboring communities to expand service. I’m excited to have her on board.”
Before joining Metro Transit, Acton led the Public Transportation Department for the Municipality of Anchorage. She managed Alaska’s largest transit provider, People Mover, which operates under a municipal ownership model with a unionized workforce similar to Metro Transit. During her tenure in Anchorage, she guided efforts to redesign the system comprehensively, expand service options, modernize vehicle fleets for both fixed route and paratransit operations, upgrade technology systems used by riders and staff alike, and secure significant grant funding aimed at improving mobility.
Acton's professional background includes extensive work in transportation planning and community engagement initiatives. Her focus has been on advancing safe and accessible transit systems intended to connect people with opportunities.
“I am honored to join Metro Transit at such a transformative time,” said Acton. “Madison is making bold investments in its transit future, and I look forward to working with Metro’s talented staff, city leaders, local stakeholders and partners to deliver a system that is efficient and responsive to the needs of the community.”
Acton holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Interdisciplinary Writing from Eastern Oregon University. She completed the American Public Transportation Association’s Leadership program and has received national recognition as a leader in transportation.
