A poll watcher who requested anonymity described her experience in Madison like that of her place of origin, the former Soviet Union.
The poll watcher said she was met with discrmination immediately upon registering to be a Republican poll watcher. She said when the election officials found out she was for the Republican Party, they put her in a corner.
“I logged in, put my name and address, and I signed that I was with the Republican Party. Their behavior changed completely,” she said. “And I was just put aside in a corner of the gymnasium so I couldn't see anything. (A polling official) said she doesn't count me whenever she was checking on other poll workers.”
The poll watcher said people constantly told her that they couldn’t understand her and that her English wasn’t good, so no one answered questions when she asked.
She said the process was not very democratic.
“I know what is communism is,” she said. “And it seems to me like the Democratic Party, has been far away from democracy in their politics. That's what they are offering people here. It's going to be a communist (system) just wrapped up nicely. What do you think happens to us from here? I hope that our President Trump will put all efforts he has and he will not betray us.”
“And what we're going to leave for our kids, you know, some Communist Party dictatorship?” the poll watcher said.
She said even in Madison they can’t put signs in their yards saying who they support and they can’t speak out about being Republican or who they support without conflict.
“Where is the, where is democracy? Where is freedom of speech? Where is freedom of political view? Why I can’t say anywhere that I am Trump supporter and ... it's very, not just unfair, it's not a democratic way. It's not a free way.”
