As COVID-19 vaccines have become more readily available, Dane County, Wisconsin has shown promising progress in its vaccination numbers.
With more residents getting vaccinated, the COVID-19 numbers have taken a large drop in comparison to last fall, prior to vaccine accessibility.
“About 0.9% of tests are coming back positive right now. An additional promising data point: Cases in children remain very low. Recently, we saw a two-week stretch with 0 cases among 5-7 year olds," Director of Public Health for Dane County, Janel Heinrich, said in a press release.
Reportedly, 67% of Dane County adults have been fully vaccinated, and 70% of residents have at least one dose, according to Wisconsin DHS.
While the county reported the new weekly average being 10.3 cases, an increase from previous weeks, Heinrich attributed the increase to the introduction of the delta strain.
"As we monitor the impact of the delta variant nationwide, we are paying careful attention to COVID activity and associated data in Dane County. As we know the prevalence of the variant is rising statewide," Heinrich said.
Despite this, Dane County remains the most fully vaccinated county in Wisconsin, the DHS reports as well.
In an effort to combat the delta variant though, unvaccinated Dane County residents are encouraged to get vaccinated.
