The Madison Arts Commission is organizing a public meeting for community members to meet mosaic artist Laurel True of True Mosaics Studio. True has been selected to design the public art for the new men's shelter on Bartillon Drive.
The event aims to give residents an opportunity to learn about True's background and artistic process. Community input will be collected during the session, allowing stakeholders to share their values and ideas with the artist. This feedback will help guide the development of artwork intended for the Bartillon Men’s Shelter.
According to organizers, "This meeting provides an opportunity for community members to learn more about the artist the Madison Arts Commission commissioned to create the planned artwork for the Bartillon Men’s Shelter and for them to provide input on this meaningful project that will enhance the shelter and the vicinity. True will share information about her artistic practice, and neighborhood stakeholders will have the opportunity to inform her about their values and ideals in order to inform the design of the public art she is creating for the shelter."
The initiative seeks community involvement in shaping how public art represents local perspectives at this new facility.
