Recent UW Badger-related commentary reveals that the football team has recently garnered a reputation for losing against, and widening the gap between big-name teams.
“#NDvsWIS The Wisconsin offense in the first half has been offensive. Pass on first down. Don’t be so predictable,” Jeff Ostach said late last month. “Mix it up. Give Mertz some confidence. I don’t care for Paul Chryst’s game plan. One more Irish Touchdown early in the third quarter and the rout will be on.”
This season alone, UW has scored 2-1, driving them to bowl game qualifications for the first time in 20 years. Despite the record win, the team also recorded a recent loss of 41-13 to Notre Dame during the latest series, the Wisconsin State Journal reports.
Most recently, the Badgers brought their total defeats to 0-7 after losing to the Fighting Irish, but the team’s players don’t plan on giving up. According to Wisconsin State Journal, multiple players admitted to the team’s general performance decline and committed to working hard to better represent the institution.
“I liked our mentality going into the fourth quarter and then we got punched right in the mouth,” UW safety Collin Wilder said. “And that’s football. Sometimes it doesn’t work out like you expect and sometimes the juice gets pulled right out of your sideline, but we’ve got to swing back and we’ve got to keep swinging. I don’t like the way that we finished when it came to swinging. As a team, we stopped swinging. Regardless of the score, we’ve got to keep swinging.”
