New money received by the Madison Metro will be utilized to restore Madison Metro’s maintenance and administrative facility. Wisconsin was one of 39 states granted funds as a part of a federal program.

This was all a part of U.S. President Joe Biden's new infrastructure bill.

“These grants will help people in communities large and small get to work, get to school and access the services they need," Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said, NBC 15 reported. "Everyone deserves access to safe, reliable, clean public transportation – and thanks to the president’s historic Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, we are bringing modern buses to communities across America.”

Madison will be the only city in Wisconsin to receive any of the money from the federal program. Texas will be given the greatest amount of money out of the 39 states that will receive funding as part of the infrastructure plan. The Lone Star state will receive greater than $22 million in federal transportation funds. This will go to support similar things in Texas, especially green energy and improved maintenance, according to NBC 15.

Approximately $409 million will be awarded in total by the Department of Transportation, according to a report from NBC 15. Requests for funding totaled $2.5 billion, making the money actually granted a relatively small percentage.
