August Moving Days: Donate! Donate! Donate!

The August Moving Days creates over 1 million pounds of extra garbage every year.

Some of these items could be used again instead of cluttering the terrace waiting to be crushed in a collection truck and dumped into the landfill.

Rather than wasting these goods, give them another life in a new home.

The Streets Division encourages everyone to seek out appropriate donation opportunities for their usable yet unwanted goods.

Donation and Resale Opportunities

A list of some of the organizations that can accept usable items can be found on the Streets Division’s website.

Before loading your vehicle to donate furniture, clothes, games, or other items, please visit the website or call the organization you wish to visit.

This will ensure that you know the correct hours and learn if they accept what you have to donate. And some organizations offer free collection of items from your home if you call them to arrange the pickup.

Usable items can also be resold or given away through various social media platforms or at online person-to-person exchanges, too.

During the August Moving Days, residents of the large downtown apartment buildings may have access to donation opportunities within their buildings. Please contact your building management to see if this opportunity will be available for you.

Additional Information

If there are additional questions about disposing or recycling an item, or how to handle special situations like having more cardboard than can fit into the recycling cart, please contact the Streets Division.

Additional information can also be found on the Streets Division’s website and the Recyclopedia PDF .
