(MADISON, Wis.)— On June 16, 2023, the westbound lanes of the 500 block of E. Washington Avenue between N. Blair Street and N. Franklin Street will be closed 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Traffic heading toward the capitol building will be directed to turn left onto S. Blair Street and can take E. Main Street to S. Franklin Street to return to E. Washington Avenue or could continue to E. Wilson Street to head into downtown.
“This closure will allow the contractor to expedite concrete paving for both westbound lanes,” City of Madison City Engineer Jim Wolfe said.
In addition, the sidewalk on the north side of E. Washington Avenue will be closed between Blount Street and Franklin Street. Pedestrians should plan to use the sidewalk on the south side of the street during the closure. The entire project is slated to be completed by the fall of 2023.
