Local artists are invited to apply for several open artist residencies available through The Bubbler at Madison Public Library in 2024. These paid positions range in length and take place at various library locations throughout the year. Many involve creating and leading workshops for library visitors, as well as offering open studio hours for the public to see and engage with your work. New and emerging artists, teaching artists, and artists who are enthusiastic about engaging with a wide swath of the community should apply.

Available positions include:

The Bubbler is also looking for a new round of exhibitions for library spaces. The current round of exhibitions will wrap up mid-summer, with selected artwork from the Open Call for Exhibitions being installed between Summer 2024-Summer 2025.

“We’re excited to offer so many paid opportunities for artists in the coming residency/exhibition cycle! Every application cycle brings in lots of amazing new artists, so I always look forward to this. The library is the perfect setting for connecting the Madison community to a broad grouping of artists and art processes”, said Trent Miller, Head Bubblerarian.

Applications close for all open opportunities on Monday, March 4th. All artists will hear back about the status of their application by April 29th. The residencies and exhibitions will be chosen by a panel of current library staff and past resident and exhibiting artists.

The Bubbler Artist-in-Residence program is supported by generous donations from the Evjue Foundation and Madison Arts Commission. Bubbler exhibitions are supported by Dane Arts and Madison Public Library Friends’ groups.
