MADISON, Wis. – Officers delivered candy, cards and carnations to hundreds of people throughout the city on Valentine’s Day. This is the third year for the department’s “Police Be Our Valentine” event.

Officers visited neighborhood centers and assisted-living facilities in all six of our patrol districts. Some of their stops included the Goodman Center, Tennyson Senior Living and the Fisher Taft Apartments.

While at Fisher Taft, dancing and cards were enjoyed by residents and officers. Many at MPD say events such as this help them build relationships and trust with those they serve.

“We can’t do our job without the community, so building those relationships now helps us all in the long run,” said Neighborhood Officer Jesse Davila.“They see us more as a person, not just our job.”Residents said they enjoyed the day and hope the tradition continues.
