Public Health Madison & Dane County is now accepting applications from local organizations interested in helping their community stay prepared for emergencies. The agency announced that $70,000 in funding is available through a Community Response and Preparedness Grant provided by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). The funds will be distributed to five agencies with the aim of enhancing community readiness in times of crisis.
According to Public Health Madison & Dane County, the funding is intended to assist local organizations in preparing for emergencies and responding to the needs of the community. The agency is seeking applications that demonstrate how the funds will be utilized to address various emergency preparedness priorities, including cyber attacks, epidemics/pandemics, computer failures, supply disruptions, power outages, air quality emergencies, biological disease outbreaks, flooding, ice storms, extreme heat, and major communications disruptions.
Specific examples of how the funding can be utilized include purchasing backup generators for power outages, conducting community outreach and education on cyber security, and stockpiling air filters to address air quality concerns. The deadline for submitting applications is April 19, 2024, as stated by Public Health Madison & Dane County.
