Provisional voters in the City of Madison have until 4:00 pm this Friday to submit photo identification to the City Clerk’s Office in order to have their ballots counted. The Board of Canvassers will convene at 4:00 pm on Friday to count provisional ballots for those who met this deadline.
A total of 18 provisional ballots were issued at City of Madison polling places on Tuesday, prompting the reminder for voters to ensure their ballots are counted by providing the necessary documentation.
Provisional voters are encouraged to provide their missing documentation to the Clerk’s Office either in person, or via e-mail or fax. Madison Public Library locations are also offering free assistance with submitting ID to the Clerk’s Office, making it convenient for voters to meet the requirements.
According to Wisconsin law, there are various forms of identification that can be used for voting purposes, including Wisconsin driver licenses, U.S. passports, military ID cards, and more. It is important to note that the ID does not need to show the voter’s current address, as the focus is on proving identity rather than address.
For those in need of assistance with the state ID application process, the Dane County Voter ID Coalition is available to help and even offers free cab rides to the DMV. The coalition, comprised of the League of Women Voters of Dane County and NAACP of Dane County, can be reached at (608) 285-2141.
Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway emphasized the importance of ensuring that every eligible voter can cast a ballot and have it counted, stating, “The goal of the City Clerk’s Office is to ensure that each eligible voter will be able to cast a ballot and have that ballot count.” Provisional voters are urged not to miss the opportunity to have their voices heard in the election.
