Board of Education Meeting Recognizes Distinguished Members and Highlights Achievements

The Board of Education meeting held on April 8, 2024, began by honoring the dedicated service of two esteemed board members. In a heartfelt tribute, it was acknowledged that the terms of Simrnjit Seerha and Gail Shepler were coming to an end. The Board expressed deep gratitude for their unwavering commitment to the District, with a statement noting, "Their unparalleled dedication to our District has been truly commendable."

During the meeting, Superintendent Dr. Dana Monogue provided updates on various achievements within the District. This included acknowledging the accomplishments of MHS seniors Isha Chilukuri and Charlotte Kosek for receiving the Herb Kohl Scholarship and congratulating Dr. Irene Resenly for being awarded the Middle School Teacher of the Year by the Wisconsin Social Studies Council.

Furthermore, a report on the Cardinal Academy transition program was presented by Cindy Malcheski, Director of Special Education, along with Transitional Services Staff Gerilynn Rohrer and Molly Morse. The program, catering to District students aged 18-21 with special education needs, focuses on enhancing independent living, vocational skills, and community engagement.

An update on the Early Childhood program highlighted its crucial role in providing specialized early intervention and special education services to children aged three to five. The program aims to equip young learners with essential skills through tailored activities and interventions, ensuring a strong foundation for academic success.

The meeting also featured a comprehensive update on the renewal of the Literacy/Biliteracy Curriculum, emphasizing the District's commitment to improving reading instruction based on science-based principles. The District aims to boost reading achievement levels by implementing new curricular materials and providing professional development for teachers.

Deputy Superintendent Sherri Cyra shared encouraging enrollment figures for the upcoming school year, noting higher-than-anticipated numbers at all levels, except for the 4K level. The data reflects a positive outlook for the academic year ahead.

Additionally, Board President Sheila Dahmen Hibner reported on the recent Employee Handbook Committee Meeting, highlighting discussions on various topics such as vacation time, general leave, and insurance. The Board approved resolutions for appointing a new trustee and custodian for the WI OPEB Trust and teacher contracts for the 2024-2025 academic year.

The meeting underscored the dedication and commitment of all stakeholders towards advancing the educational framework and fostering a supportive environment for students and staff within the Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District.
