Madison College Board Trustee Joe Maldonado has stepped down from his position, citing a conflict of interest as fellow trustee Donald D. Dantzler, Jr. was elected to the Fitchburg council. Maldonado's resignation letter referenced Dantzler's involvement in the college's presidential search as a key factor in his decision to resign.

In a statement, Maldonado expressed his gratitude, saying, "I want to thank President Daniels, my fellow trustees, the District Board Nomination Committee, and the hard-working staff and students of Madison Area Technical College for giving me this pleasurable, educational opportunity to serve. It has made me a better public official and person."

Madison College President Dr. Jack Daniels praised Maldonado's contributions, noting his active participation in board discussions, college presentations, and national conferences. Daniels expressed his appreciation for Maldonado's dedication to the board, the college, and the students.

The Madison College Board of Trustees is expected to fill the vacant seat left by Maldonado this summer for the remaining two years of his three-year term. The board consists of nine members, including two employers, two employees, three members-at-large, an elected official, and a school district administrator.

Maldonado's resignation marks the need for a new trustee to continue serving the college community in the coming years.
