The Madison College Annual Spring Pow Wow, set to take place on April 27 at Madison College's Truax Campus, is gearing up to be a lively celebration of Native American heritage and culture. Singers and dancers from various tribal nations across Wisconsin will come together for this event.

A variety of drummers, including Wind Eagle, Fire Nation, Twin Tails, Ho-Chunk Station, and Little Priest Singers, alongside the award-winning host drum Hay Creek, are expected to bring an electrifying atmosphere to the Redsten Gym. Dancers will showcase their talents in different dance styles, such as men’s dance, women’s dance, applique special, singer championship, potato dance, and bells, with the chance to compete for prize money.

Katie Ackley, Madison College Student Program Advisor, highlighted that the pow-wow offers more than just singing and dancing, stating, “The pow-wow isn't solely focused on singing and dancing; it's a holistic experience with art, food, and a silent auction.” Attendees will also have the opportunity to immerse themselves in Native American culture through traditional crafts and apparel from over 20 vendors.

The event, organized by Madison College's Native American Student Association (NASA) in collaboration with the Madison College Intercultural Exchange and the Division of College, Culture, and Climate, reflects the college's dedication to promoting cultural understanding and inclusivity.

The Spring Pow Wow is open to the public, free of charge, and will feature an afternoon session starting at 1 p.m. and an evening session at 7 p.m. It will be a great opportunity for individuals to experience the richness of Native American traditions firsthand.
