During the Mifflin Street Block Party in Madison, Wisconsin, chaos ensued as a car was flipped over and another was severely damaged. According to commanders for the Madison Police Department, this year's block party was the largest since the pandemic, with thousands of attendees packing the streets.

One officer, working a traffic post during the event, suffered minor injuries after being hit by a vehicle. The officer was taken to the hospital for a check-up, but remained alert. The driver involved in the incident stayed at the scene and was not cited.

In response to the large crowds, over 150 officers, including the department's Special Events Team and Mounted Patrol, were present to ensure public safety. Officers enforced the city's open container laws, monitored overcrowding on porches and balconies, and assisted people who had climbed trees in the area to come down safely.

The event took a concerning turn when a front porch partially broke, leading to a response from Madison Fire. Additionally, a car was flipped over in the backyards of homes along the 500 block of Mifflin Street, resulting in damage to another vehicle. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during these incidents.

As the crowds began to disperse, more than 80 people were arrested, primarily for minor alcohol-related offenses. Six individuals were booked into the Dane County Jail, with the possibility of additional citations pending. The final arrest numbers will be released next week.

Overall, the Mifflin Street Block Party ended with roads reopening at 5:45 p.m., as attendees left due to rain moving into the area. Despite the chaotic events that unfolded, authorities managed to maintain control and ensure the safety of both participants and residents.
