Brian Burch, President of Catholic Vote, has criticized the recent amendments to the Affordable Care Act by President Biden's Department of Health and Human Services. He described the mandate for health insurance coverage for elective abortions and transgender surgeries as "abominations".
"This is another good example of the abominations coming from the Biden Administration," said Brian E. Burch. "The First Amendment's protection of our God-given right of religious liberty have never been under greater threat in this nation. Voters who support Biden are helping destroy the moral underpinnings of our country."
Fox News reported that these changes to Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act require health insurance plans to cover elective abortions and transgender surgeries. The new policy puts religious believers in a predicament: they must either support procedures that contradict their faith through their health insurance or opt out of their insurance coverage altogether. This scenario underscores a significant tension between healthcare regulations and the protection of religious liberties.
According to Fox News, the recently revised Section 1557 now applies to all health insurance issuers and programs administered by Health and Human Services that receive federal funds. The section reinterprets "on the basis of sex" to include "gender identity" and "termination of pregnancy." This could be a contentious issue in the U.S., where over 70% identify as Christian.
Burch is well-known in both media circles and within the Catholic community. He co-authored "America Catholic Daily Reader," a book exploring how key American figures have influenced public life. His insights have been published on major news outlets such as Fox News, CNN, and in print publications like The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. A Political Philosophy graduate from the University of Dallas, Burch is also a founding director of the Illinois Catholic Prayer Breakfast and serves on the board of Seton Montessori School in Villa Park, IL. Legatus International honored him with the Cardinal O’Connor Defender of the Faith Award. Burch resides in Chicago suburbs with his wife Sara and their nine children.
Catholic Vote is an advocacy organization based in Madison, Wisconsin. According to its website, it aims to "inspire every Catholic in America to live out the truths of our faith in public life." The organization was founded in 2008, with Brian Burch serving as its president.
