Metal Mania was a success with around 300 people joining the event on May 18 at Madison College Fort Atkinson.
The competition theme was Wisconsin Farms, featuring sculptures from local high schools, Madison College, and community members. With six teams competing in the Welding Fabrication Art Sculpture contest, high school teams dominated: first place went to the Fort Atkinson High School Blackhawks. The Blackhawk team used the “Wisconsin Farms” theme to create a farm masterpiece featuring rustic-looking farm equipment, including a combine surrounded by glistening stalks of corn. Their team had two welders and two artists contributing to the creation.
The 4 Amigos, classmates from this year’s Madison College Fort Atkinson Metal Fabrication program, took second place with their combined sculpture. Marshall High School secured third place with a highland cow sculpture.
Fort Atkinson campus hosted the annual Metal Mania in its newly renovated welding and metal fabrication space. The event highlighted the college's Metal Fabrication with Welding Bolt-On Program where students earn two degrees in one year.
In addition to the competition, attendees witnessed laser, welding, and blacksmith demonstrations throughout the day. Activities included meeting Wolfie, engaging in games for all ages, and enjoying food.
The event was supported by staff, volunteers, and sponsors such as FMA and Alter Recycling, Badger Basement, IPEC, Miller, and Sherman Williams. With donations from the community and Alter Recycling, Madison College-Fort Atkinson raised over $1,000 for the Metal Fabrication scholarship program.
