The Nature Everywhere Conference, organized by the Children & Nature Network, is set to take place at Monona Terrace Community & Convention Center from May 28-31. The event aims to bring together leaders from various sectors globally to discuss and promote equitable access to nature for children in their everyday environments.
Madison has been recognized as a leader in connecting children and families with nature. By hosting this conference and the accompanying Nature Everywhere Day, the city seeks to further its efforts in enhancing equitable access to natural spaces for children.
Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway will welcome over 600 attendees on Wednesday, May 29. The event will feature a keynote presentation by James Edward Mills, author and founder of The Joy Trip Project. Over three days, the conference will offer both inspirational talks and practical solutions aimed at improving children's access to nature.
The conference concludes with Nature Everywhere Day on Saturday, June 1, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., featuring numerous free activities throughout Madison. Local nature enthusiasts are encouraged to visit the event's hub at Olin Terrace—located in front of Monona Terrace at Wilson St. and Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.—to participate in the Vitamin N Challenge and learn about various nature-based activities happening across the city.
Activities planned for all ages include an MSCR-led nature hike at Olson Oak Woods State Natural Area, a Birding Walk in Olin Park, canoeing on Lake Monona, orienteering exploration in Hoyt Park, community yoga sessions, arts and crafts workshops, among others. For a complete list of events and locations, see Nature Everywhere Day.
