Brian Burch, president of faith-based organization Catholic Vote, said the survival of a baby born at 22 weeks gestation "destroys the pro-abortion movement's argument" that a child isn't a human life at that stage.
"Wonderful stories like that of baby Wren in the United Kingdom need to be reported far and wide, and shared by pro-lifers with friends and family members everywhere," Burch told Madison Reporter. "When a baby is born premature and is so tiny and survives, it destroys the pro-abortion movement's argument that what is being killed is not a human life."
Wren was born at only 22 weeks into her mother's pregnancy, and weighed a total of 14 oz. After spending 131 days in the hospital at the start of her life, Wren recently celebrated her first birthday, Life News reported.
Naomi Southern-Augustine, a mother from Peterborough, gave birth early after noticing some strange symptoms and going in to check on her unborn child. Wren was the smallest baby the hospital's NICU had seen, fitting entirely within her father Rob's hand.
While baby Wren had a good first two weeks after being born early, she show signs of deterioration and doctors began considering withdrawing treatment. After months in care units across two hospitals, Wren was able to go home with her parents.
Several abortion limitations allow the termination of a pregnancy at 22 or 23 weeks gestation. According to Life News, 261 babies were born at 22 or 23 weeks and survived until they were able to be discharged throughout 2020 and 2021.
