Madison Parks is calling for volunteers as preparations for this year's Ride the Drive event intensify. Scheduled for Sunday, August 11, Ride the Drive celebrates Madison's healthy and active lifestyle by closing select streets, such as John Nolen Drive, to motor vehicles. The 4-mile route features six park hubs with vendors, exhibitors, food, and activities for all ages.
"We're seeking roughly 250 enthusiastic volunteers to help make this year's Ride the Drive a success. It’s a fantastic way to support our healthy community and connect with your neighbors," said John Weichelt, Parks Volunteer Coordinator.
Volunteer positions include setup, intersection guides, booth staff, and cleanup. The most crucial roles are the intersection guides who ensure participants' safety at intersections along the route while redirecting vehicles to alternative traffic routes.
Flexible shifts of 2-3 hours allow volunteers ample time to enjoy the festivities. Virtual training sessions provided by Madison Parks prepare volunteers thoroughly. Each volunteer receives an RTD t-shirt and has opportunities to connect with others committed to a healthy Madison community.
