The Streets Division has announced the commencement of operations for the student move-out period, which will run from August 5, 2024, to August 23, 2024. The following is a summary of key points regarding the move-out process:

Residents are encouraged to donate usable items instead of discarding them. A list of local donation opportunities is available at www.cityofmadison.com/ReUse.

For safety and efficiency, residents should adhere to large item set-out rules. The large item work order system can be used to schedule the collection of appliances for recycling and other special items such as tires. This system can be accessed at www.cityofmadison.com/LargeItemWorkOrder.

Collection crews will patrol the student move-out area to collect furniture, mattresses, carpeting, and other landfill-destined items from August 5 through August 23.

Starting on Monday, August 5, trash and recycling carts in the student move-out area will be emptied daily by Streets Division crews as time and staffing allow. Residents are reminded to use their carts correctly: recyclables should go in the green cart and trash in the tan cart.

Televisions, computers, or other electronics should not be left at the curb for pickup. Instead, they should be taken to a Streets Division drop-off site where City of Madison residents can dispose of electronics for free. More information is available at www.cityofmadison.com/eCycle.

For additional questions about this year’s student move out or household cleanup queries at other times of the year, residents can contact their respective Streets Division office:

- East side residents: 608-246-4532

- West side residents: 608-266-4681

Alternatively, inquiries can be sent via email to streets@cityofmadison.com.
