Alder John Guequierre of District 19 has scheduled a series of three educational sessions focused on the city budget, emphasizing accessibility and inclusivity. Residents are invited to engage critically in discussions about creating an environment where all can realize their full potential. The first two sessions will be held in person at Oakwood Village Auditorium, while the final session will be conducted virtually.
Guequierre aims to make budget education accessible to all Madison residents. "The purpose of this series is to explore the reason for and details of two long-range budget plans. Whether or not the referendum passes, we will need to consider service reductions. I want to collect resident input on the best places to make those difficult decisions," he stated.
These sessions will provide an in-depth look at the City of Madison budget, covering topics such as the budget deficit, multi-year plans, agency proposals for cuts, and service reduction scenarios. Residents can also participate in an online survey designed to evaluate what services are expendable and which must be preserved.
The first session is scheduled for Wednesday, September 18, 2024, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Oakwood Village Auditorium, 6209 Mineral Point Road. This session will delve into Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and its impact on the Capital and Operating Budgets. Registration is available at www.cityofmadison.com/D19ExploretheBudget.
Additional sessions include:
- Thursday, October 3, 2024, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., focusing on the Community Development Division and funding for non-profits.
- Wednesday, October 16, 2024, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., virtual via Zoom with Spanish and Mandarin interpretation available.
