MMSD welcomed several special guests this week, including U.S. Department of Education Deputy Secretary Cindy Marten, Governor Tony Evers, City of Madison Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway, and Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction State Superintendent Jill Underly. They had an opportunity to connect with staff and students, observing the teaching and learning occurring in schools.

On Sept. 4, Deputy Marten and Mayor Rhodes-Conway, along with MMSD Superintendent Dr. Joe Gothard, visited Nuestro Mundo Community School and Henderson Elementary. Deputy Marten's visit was part of a week-long, multi-state back-to-school annual bus tour that began on Tuesday, Sept. 3 in Green Bay.

Gov. Evers visited Lapham Elementary on Sept. 4 to welcome students, staff, and families back to school. He was joined by MMSD Deputy Superintendent Dr. TJ McCray.

On Sept. 5, Wisconsin State Superintendent Dr. Underly visited Vel Phillips Memorial High School and Robert M. La Follette High School with Dr. Gothard to tour recently completed renovation projects.
