The City Clerk’s Office has commenced the distribution of absentee ballots. For those intending to vote by mail, the following steps outline how to request an absentee ballot:

1. Visit My Voter Info at https://MyVote.wi.gov. Enter your name and date of birth to verify registration at your current address. Check My Absentee Status to see if you have already requested an absentee ballot.

2. If no request is on file, a link will appear stating, “Start here to request an absentee ballot.” Follow the instructions on the My Vote site to submit your request. If identification is not on file with the Clerk’s Office, you will be prompted to upload an image of your voter ID.

3. In subsequent days, return to the My Vote site to track your absentee ballot's status by entering your name and date of birth. This allows you to check when the Clerk’s Office mailed your ballot and its location in transit.

Upon receiving your ballot:

- Mark it in the presence of an adult witness.

- Seal it in the return envelope.

- Sign the envelope as the voter and have your witness sign, print their name, and address.

Return your completed absentee ballot either by mailing it back or using one of the secure drop boxes located near each Madison fire station. If mailing, allow at least one week for delivery by the Post Office. For those needing assistance due to a disability, someone other than an employer, union agent, or candidate on the ballot may help return it.

After submission, verify receipt by checking https://MyVote.wi.gov.

All absentee ballots are sent to polling stations for counting on Election Day.

"The goal of the City Clerk’s Office is that each eligible voter will be able to cast a ballot and have that ballot counted."
