Brandon Maly, Chairman of the Dane County Republicans, said that union members and working-class voters who typically support Democrats "are now turning towards President Trump in a significant shift." Maly shared his statement with the Madison Reporter on September 24.
"Union members and working-class voters, who typically support Democrats, are now turning towards President Trump in a significant shift," said Maly. "Blue-collar workers see Trump's commitment to safeguarding traditional energy jobs and strengthening American industry as genuine, unlike Kamala Harris's superficial rhetoric. As voters who love this state and want to see it thrive, we must pay attention. President Trump fights for Wisconsin workers–and they know it."
In a September 18 press release, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters reported its decision not to endorse a presidential candidate. After six months of polling and a year of discussions with major candidates, the union did not find ideal commitment from the candidates on its key issues. While President Joe Biden had support in local union straw polls earlier in the year, independent polling from July to September showed that most members favored Trump over Harris for a potential endorsement. As a result, the union chose to remain neutral in the presidential race.
The Teamsters Rank and File Presidential Endorsement Poll Results, conducted from July 24 to September 15, 2024, indicated Trump leading Harris by a margin of 57% to 40.5%. These results represent a 41.7% shift towards Trump since Biden's withdrawal as the Democratic nominee.
Fox News reported on Brian Pannebecker's perspective in light of the Teamsters' lack of presidential endorsement. Pannebecker, founder of Auto Workers for Trump, said, "65% or 70% of the UAW members are supporting Donald Trump because the very existence of our industry is at stake."
Fox News also reported Bob Bartels' explanation for his inability to support Harris’ candidacy. Bartels, business manager of Steamfitters Local Union 638, said, "For everything that's gone on in the last four years. An open border, inflation, gas prices, oil, mortgage rates. I mean, I can go on and on. The immigrants just getting into neighborhoods like the neighborhood I grew up in… These are where people worked hard all their life to buy a house in a nice neighborhood, and now it's destroyed by illegal immigrants."
Maly was first elected Chairman of the Dane County Republicans in 2023. According to the organization’s website, he is "focused on boosting Republican voter turnout, growing the Party’s membership, and communicating the Party’s positions on issues that matter to Dane County voters."
