All companies contracting with the City of Madison, except those exempt, must submit job postings to the Department of Civil Rights (DCR) before advertising elsewhere if the job is within Dane County. They are also required to guarantee interviews for candidates referred by DCR who meet minimum qualifications.
"We work with community partners to help companies fill positions, providing a collaboration that helps the hiring companies and the job seekers alike," said Jesus Sanchez, Contract Compliance Specialist with the DCR. "The RaISE program is not only helping job seekers but also companies that are looking for qualified workers."
Jesus Sanchez manages the RaISE program and is enthusiastic about its impact on the community. He has been working to establish strong partnerships to aid in program growth.
Current partners include Employability, Urban League, Catholic Multicultural Center, African Center, and the Department of Workforce Development. More organizations are in process of becoming partners. The aim is geographic representation and serving communities in various languages. These organizations provide essential tools and have a deep understanding of community needs.
"Their collaboration is key to the success of this program," Jesus stated.
Working with the Department of Workforce Development (DWD) enhances support from community-based organizations. DWD has facilitated new connections, expanding statewide reach and serving diverse communities. "For some candidates, this is a game changer," according to Norm Davis, Director of the Department of Civil Rights. While many may have sent numerous applications without success, securing an interview opportunity can be crucial.
