A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the City Of Sun Prairie regarding new voter registrations on November 7, 2024.
As a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Madison Reporter requested a list of new voters who registered to vote on November 5, 2024. This request was made under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., and we expressed a preference for receiving the records in an electronic format.
The purpose of this request is to fulfill our professional responsibilities as journalists, which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Access to public records such as these is essential for us to achieve these goals.
We believe that given our role in disseminating information to the public, we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional. We have communicated this belief in our request and await a response from the City Of Sun Prairie.
