Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway is urging Madison residents to support local businesses during the holiday season. Emphasizing the importance of artists, crafters, and small enterprises to the city's economy, she highlighted their role in making Madison a vibrant community. To demonstrate her commitment, Mayor Rhodes-Conway visited The Crafty Fair at the Goodman Community Center for her holiday shopping.
"I like to buy from local vendors and local stores when looking for presents for friends and families. When you shop locally more of your dollar stays right here in the community and supports your neighbors," stated Mayor Rhodes-Conway. She added that there are many small businesses in Madison offering unique gifts not available at large retail chains.
During her visit to The Crafty Fair, the Mayor purchased a handcrafted candle, two dish towels, and a Cats of Madison calendar. She noted an advantage of buying locally: "And the great thing about shopping locally, you don’t have to wait. It’s always free, same-day delivery."
Meghan Stern from Dane Buy Local pointed out that most local businesses depend on increased sales during the holiday period. "If we all can buy a few locally made products in the next few weeks, it’s going to benefit the entire community all year-long," said Stern.
