Eastside Elementary School in the Sun Prairie Area School District has been recognized as a 2024 National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education. This honor highlights the school's strong academic performance and efforts to close achievement gaps among its diverse student population.
Dr. Brad Saron, Superintendent of the Sun Prairie Area School District, expressed pride in this accomplishment, stating, “We are incredibly proud of Eastside and our entire community for this achievement. This recognition reflects the hard work, dedication, and collaborative spirit of our students, families, teachers, and staff.”
The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors schools across the country for exemplary performance. Eastside Elementary is one of 356 schools acknowledged by U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona in 2024 for excelling academically and making significant progress in closing achievement gaps.
Principal Craig Coulthart attributed the award to collective efforts: “This award is a result of the hard work of teachers, staff, students, and families. It represents our commitment to creating a learning environment together where all of our Eastside Eagles feel valued, supported, and challenged to reach their fullest potential.”
The award recognizes schools in two categories: Exemplary High Performing Schools and Exemplary Achievement Gap Closing Schools. Eastside Elementary was honored in both categories.
U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona commented on the significance of these awards: “The National Blue Ribbon Schools Award is a testament to the exceptional achievements of students and educators at each of these schools."
Each year up to 420 schools can be nominated for this award by top education officials from various regions including states and territories. Private school nominations are managed by the Council for American Private Education.
