For 21 years, the Read Your Heart Out (RYHO) event has promoted literacy, cultural pride, and community involvement within the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD). This annual celebration coincides with National African American Parent Involvement Day.

Caregivers, family members, and community participants are encouraged to join RYHO by engaging in activities such as reading books, reciting poetry, and storytelling with students at elementary schools. The aim is to inspire all families and community members to volunteer and celebrate Black history within the educational environment.

From February 10 to February 20, 2025, MMSD elementary schools will open their doors for families and volunteers to participate in these events. Those interested can sign up through the RYHO Family/Community Reader Participant Form or contribute by submitting a video for the Virtual RYHO Archive.

The 2025 RYHO celebration will commence with a virtual kickoff on Monday, February 10 at 10 a.m., featuring students, district leadership, and special guests.

Further information and resources are available on the MMSD website. Inquiries can be directed via email to fyce@madison.k12.wi.us or by phone at (608) 663-5977.
