The City of Madison is moving forward with the construction of the Imagination Center at Reindahl Park. Corporate Contractors Inc. (CCI) has been awarded the construction contract as the lowest responsible bidder. This project marks Madison Public Library’s first new library in over 25 years. The facility will serve as a multifunctional indoor-outdoor library and community space, doubling as the first library located within a Madison Park.
The Imagination Center aims to be a hub for learning and social interaction, accessible to people of all ages. It will provide free Wi-Fi and public computers, offering access to resources focused on health, wellness, work, school, and more. Situated at E. Washington Ave. and Portage Rd., this community space will connect library and city services to northeast Madison, serving more than 19,000 residents.
This endeavor is a collaboration between Madison Public Library, City of Madison Engineering, Madison Parks, and Madison Public Library Foundation. The project received a $4.25 million grant in October 2024 from the Wisconsin Department of Administration’s Flexible Facilities Program, funded by the U.S. Department of Treasury. The design consultant work was prepared by JLA Architects, GRAEF, Saiki Design, and InteriorLOGIC, Inc.
The total of six bids were submitted for the project, with Corporate Contractors Inc. presenting the lowest bid at $12,259,000. This amount is $1,466,000 less than the city's estimated $13,725,000 for the construction. Work is set to commence in the spring of 2025, with completion expected in the summer of 2026.
