Madison College and the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater have established a new articulation agreement to foster student success in careers related to fitness, recreation, and wellness. The leadership of both institutions marked the agreement with a signing event at the Madison College Truax Campus on April 17.
Madison College Provost Beth Giles commented on the agreement, stating, “As we navigate the evolving landscape of education, the future of health care and an increasing emphasis on physical health, it is essential that we support students aiming to make a lasting positive impact in the health and wellness sector.” She emphasized that the partnership exemplifies both institutions' dedication to providing effective educational pathways in health and wellness.
The agreement facilitates a smooth transfer process between the two schools, aiding transitioning students to become professionals in the field. UW-Whitewater Interim Provost Robin Fox highlighted the growth in demand for community health workers, saying, “With the need for community health workers growing much faster than the average occupation, it’s no surprise that human performance is one of our most sought-after majors.” She noted that the program offers a comprehensive experience for students, preparing them for various careers, including exercise physiology and community health.
Under this agreement, students enrolled in the Associate of Applied Science in Fitness, Recreation, and Wellness Management at Madison College are assured admission to UW-Whitewater’s Human Performance major. They can also pursue minors in related fields, earning a minimum of 57 credits towards their degree.
Eligible students must apply to UW-Whitewater, submit necessary documentation, and complete their associate degree in Fitness, Recreation & Wellness Management at Madison College with at least a 2.25 GPA.
The two schools have a history of successful transfer collaborations in areas such as early childhood education, human services, IT, paralegal studies, and liberal arts. For more information, interested parties are directed to the Madison College Transfer Partnership program page.
