The City of Madison has declared a snow emergency, with alternate side parking rules now in effect citywide. These regulations are crucial to facilitate the efficient clearing of snow from streets.
Residents are required to adhere to alternate side parking rules between 1:00 am and 7:00 am. Tonight, February 13, 2025, vehicles should be parked on the side of the street with odd-numbered houses. Tomorrow night, February 14, 2025, parking should shift to the even-numbered side. It is important for residents to also comply with any additional parking restrictions indicated by street signs.
Non-compliance with winter parking rules will result in a $60 fine. Vehicles that are towed will incur an additional $115 towing fee. For updates on alternate side parking requirements, residents can call the winter parking hotline at 608-261-9111.
During this snow emergency period, free overnight parking is available at City garages equipped with cashiers from 9 pm until 7 am. However, if vehicles enter before or exit after these hours, regular fees will apply for the extra time spent in the garage. Parking on the top level or in metered areas is prohibited as these areas need to remain clear for plowing operations. Additionally, vehicles cannot remain parked in a City garage for more than 48 hours.
An alternative option for free overnight parking is available at Brittingham Park Shelter's lot located on W Washington Ave.
The city encourages residents who can park off-street to do so as it aids in making plowing operations safer and faster by reducing obstacles. Trash and recycling carts should not be placed in streets; instead, they should be positioned within driveways or cleared terrace areas.
