Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce (WMC) has announced Don Wahlin as the newest inductee into the Wisconsin Manufacturing Hall of Fame. Wahlin, a native of Wisconsin, is recognized for his significant contributions to the state's manufacturing industry through his company, Stoughton Trailers.
In 1961, Wahlin acquired the assets of a small bankrupt business and established Stoughton Trailers. Over four decades, he expanded it into one of North America's largest trailer manufacturers and the largest in its home county.
Wahlin becomes the 80th member of the Hall of Fame, joining other notable figures such as Ashley Furniture’s Ron Wanek and historical names like Jerome Case and Oscar Mayer. The Hall of Fame was initially started by WMC's predecessor in the 1950s to honor those who contributed significantly to Wisconsin's industrial history but was discontinued in 1970. It was reconstituted in 2024 by WMC and First Business Bank to celebrate Wisconsin's manufacturing legacy.
Kurt R. Bauer, President & CEO of WMC, stated: “The Wisconsin Manufacturing Hall of Fame distinguishes and honors the legacy of the leaders who have built Wisconsin.”
Beyond his business achievements, Wahlin served as a pilot in the Air National Guard for 23 years and co-founded The Wahlin Foundation with his wife Carol. The foundation supports local community projects such as youth centers and hospitals.
Bauer remarked on Wahlin’s induction: “Don Wahlin was an obvious addition to the Hall of Fame... His legacy will undoubtedly endure for generations to come.”
Expressing gratitude for this recognition, Wahlin said: “I am deeply honored and humbled to be inducted into the Wisconsin Manufacturing Hall of Fame.”
The induction ceremony is scheduled for February 20 at Milwaukee's Pfister Hotel during the annual Wisconsin Manufacturer of the Year awards.
