The City of Madison has released the schedule for spring yard waste collection. Residents can find specific dates for their neighborhoods on the Streets Division’s yard waste website. Each resident will have two opportunities to set out their yard waste: once in April and again in May.
To determine when to place yard waste at the curb, residents should visit www.cityofmadison.com/YardWaste and enter their address. The site provides exact set-out dates but notes that collection occurs during the work week following these dates.
Yard waste includes leaves, weeds, and other plant materials removed from lawns or gardens. It is important not to mix brush with yard waste as they are collected separately.
There will be no yard waste collection during summer months due to other duties requiring crew attention. Collection will resume in fall, with those dates available later this year on the same website.
Residents must follow specific guidelines when setting out yard waste: it should be placed on the terrace or right-of-way space, not in the road. If bagging is preferred, bags should remain open so crews can see inside. Paper lawn bags are recommended over plastic ones, though tarps can also be used to cover piles.
For those preferring drop-off options, several sites are available throughout Madison. Details about hours and locations can be found at www.cityofmadison.com/DropOffSites.
