The Badger Challenge, an annual event aimed at supporting cancer research and treatment initiatives, is now open for registration. This year’s event will take place on September 21 at the newly opened UW Health Eastpark Medical Center in Madison, Wisconsin.
Deric Wheeler, a professor of human oncology at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health and co-founder of the Badger Challenge, expressed enthusiasm about the new venue. “We are thrilled to bring the Badger Challenge to Eastpark Medical Center,” Wheeler stated. “At Eastpark, patients are receiving cutting-edge cancer treatments and have access to the latest clinical trials, which perfectly aligns with the mission of Badger Challenge.”
Eastpark Medical Center began operations in October 2024 and serves as a facility where Carbone Cancer Center patients receive treatment. It is also set to offer upright proton therapy by early 2026, considered one of the most advanced forms of radiation treatment available for cancer therapy.
The Badger Challenge has seen significant growth over the years, with nearly 3,500 participants annually. The event has raised over $4.7 million for advancing cancer research. Every dollar raised by participants goes directly into funding innovative approaches in various areas such as surgery, radiation therapy, immunotherapy, and personalized medicine.
So far, more than 70 scholars, research programs, professors, and clinical initiatives have benefited from this support at Carbone Cancer Center.
