Brent Plisch has been appointed as the new chief of police for the University of Wisconsin–Madison Police Department (UWPD). He will officially assume his new role on March 16. Plisch, who has been serving as the interim chief, expressed his commitment to maintaining safety at UW–Madison. "I will continue to promote the safety and well-being of all who live, work, and learn at UW–Madison," he stated.

Plisch's career with UWPD spans nearly two decades, during which he has taken on various roles including field trainer, K-9 handler, community liaison, and leadership positions. Before becoming interim chief, he was the assistant chief for administration and support.

Rob Cramer, vice chancellor for finance and administration, praised Plisch's experience and leadership. "With nearly 20 years of experience working for the UWPD, Brent Plisch has a deep understanding of current issues facing UW–Madison and the surrounding community," Cramer said. He also thanked those involved in the selection process.

Plisch was chosen from four finalists by a committee led by Nancy Lynch, vice chancellor for legal affairs. His background includes service as a captain in the United States Army and ongoing studies toward a master's degree in public administration.

The role of associate vice chancellor and chief of police involves overseeing department functions and fostering relationships with campus stakeholders to address issues collaboratively.
