The City of Madison has opened secure ballot drop boxes for the upcoming Spring Election on April 1. These boxes are designed to provide a safe method for absentee voters in Madison to return their ballots to the City Clerk’s Office.
Voters who have requested an absentee ballot should expect to receive it shortly. It is important to follow the instructions that accompany the ballot to ensure it is counted properly.
After completing and sealing your ballot in the certificate envelope, you can deposit it in the nearest secure drop box. Ensure that all required information on the certificate is filled out, including voter signature, witness signature, witness name, and witness address.
The City Clerk’s Office has established a secure process for collecting ballots from 14 designated drop boxes:
- Two sworn election officials are responsible for retrieving ballots from each location.
- The retrieved ballots are placed in a ballot bag secured with a tamper-evident seal featuring a unique serial number. This number is recorded on a chain of custody form.
- After collection, teams promptly deliver the ballots to personnel at the City Clerk’s Office. Staff members then verify the details on the chain of custody form.
