Mark Pocan criticizes Trump's policies on education and health

Rep. Mark Pocan, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Wisconsin’s 2nd district, has recently expressed his concerns on social media regarding various policy decisions made by the Trump administration. Through a series of tweets, he has criticized actions affecting education and public health.

On March 20, 2025, Rep. Pocan highlighted the potential negative impact of budget cuts to the Department of Education initiated by the Trump administration. He emphasized that such cuts would primarily affect red states, stating "As @AFTUnion President @rweingarten points out, the grand irony of the Trump administration slashing the Department of Education is that it will devastate red states the most! I don’t care if you’re a Democrat, Republican, or neither. I’m going to keep fighting for our".

Later that day, Rep. Pocan further criticized the use of children in political maneuvers amidst these educational budget reductions. He tweeted "Using kids as political props while Trump guts their schools is as shameless as it gets."

On March 21, 2025, Rep. Pocan took action alongside other lawmakers concerning public health issues. He led a letter with several colleagues urging President Trump to maintain funding for a specific division within the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). In his tweet he mentioned "Today, I led a letter with @RepRobinKelly, @SenGillibrand, and @SenJeffMerkley signed by nearly 100 of our colleagues demanding that Trump keep the Centers for Disease Control’s Division of HIV Prevention open. If the Division is shuttered, we’ll see thousands of new HIV cases," indicating potential health risks if such divisions were closed.
