UW Health is inviting the community to express gratitude to its physicians in celebration of National Doctors’ Day. The event, observed annually on March 30, recognizes the contributions of doctors to patient health and wellness.
This year, UW Health encourages patients and their families to send notes of thanks through a digital community card available until March 30. These messages will be compiled on an online platform and shared with all UW Health physicians on the designated day. It is advised that personal or private information not be included in these public messages.
Dr. Aimee Becker, chief clinical officer at UW Health, emphasized the dual role of physicians in both patient care and research aimed at developing new therapies and tests. "Making it possible for our patients to thrive is our priority every day," she stated. She also expressed appreciation for the messages received, noting their positive impact: "Every message of gratitude we receive is something we’re deeply grateful for and something that fortifies us when we’re helping our patients face some of the biggest challenges in their lives."
Doctors’ Day has been celebrated since 1933. It gained official recognition when the United States House of Representatives passed a resolution in 1953, followed by President George H.W. Bush signing it into law as a national observance in 1990.
Becker encouraged people everywhere to acknowledge their healthcare providers: “We love that our patients send us messages for Doctors’ Day, and we hope no matter where you get your care, you consider sending a note to a doctor this year to let them know the work they’re doing, whether it’s in the lab or at the bedside, is appreciated.”
