The Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) is progressing with its new Strategic Framework, a plan intended to guide the district until 2030. Partnering with RTI International, an expert in K-12 strategic planning, the district aims to create an innovative plan driven by community involvement.
In recent months, significant progress has been made. MMSD and RTI International have convened an 80-member Steering Committee twice to gather stakeholder input and direct the planning process. One-on-one meetings with Board of Education members were held to align with leadership's vision for the district. MMSD also analyzed various data sets, such as student outcome data, the Superintendent's search survey, and annual climate surveys.
The district conducted 32 focus groups, involving more than 600 students and staff. These included 25 student focus groups with 242 participants, 25 school-based staff groups with 251 participants, eight central office groups with 100 participants, and a focus group with ten Community Center Directors.
Looking forward, MMSD remains dedicated to engaging the community, emphasizing voices that are typically underrepresented. The drafting and iteration of foundational elements, such as vision and mission statements, will continue. A staff design session is planned to develop the implementation and monitoring elements of the framework, including strategies and metrics. Feedback from the Board of Education, Steering Committee, and community members will also be solicited.
The five-year Strategic Framework is expected to be presented to the Board of Education for consideration in June.
