Many college students spend their spring breaks resting or socializing. Ezra Wallace, a freshman at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, chose a different path. Returning to Madison for his break, Wallace, a University of Wisconsin-Green Bay goalkeeper, visited MMSD elementary schools to share his passion for soccer with students.
Wallace engaged in soccer games at school playgrounds throughout the district, allowing him to connect with students during their recess periods. Reflecting on his own childhood, Wallace shared, "It reminds me of the good times when I was younger. When I was a kid during recess at Orchard Ridge, I played soccer every single time. I was just like these kids, and it's refreshing to see everyone still comes together to play the game."
During a visit to Muir Elementary, Wallace answered questions from a curious fourth grader about his experiences, including his favorite professional player, college play, and practice routines. Wallace remarked, “It’s fun to come back to the basics this week, no lifting, no practice, just having fun, literal child's play.”
Before his college athletic career, Wallace played on the boys soccer team at Vel Phillips Memorial High School and attended the Early College STEM Academy at Madison College, completing his studies in 2024.
