The University of Wisconsin–Madison is hosting its annual Day of the Badger event from April 8 to 9. Sponsored by the Wisconsin Foundation and Alumni Association, this annual fundraising campaign aims to generate financial support for various campus initiatives. Since its inception in 2019, Day of the Badger has supported approximately 600 university-based causes, accumulating $8.5 million in donations, largely from small contributions.
The campaign involves 1,848 minutes of activities, symbolizing the year the university was founded. It includes a university-wide treasure hunt for plush Buckys, gathering school spirit with themed activities such as disco scenes at Alumni Park, social media challenges, and complimentary food.
Part of the event includes a large-scale scavenger hunt across the 939-acre UW–Madison campus, where 20 Bucky Badger toys are hidden. Each toy carries a monetary attachment for the finder’s charity of choice. "Be on the lookout for a Bucky," participants are encouraged.
Another highlight is a disco-themed setup at Alumni Park, featuring appearances by the university’s mascot, Bucky Badger. Participants can enjoy giveaways of Badger-themed gear and food. Additionally, a friendly challenge has been set between the Department of Communications Arts and the School of Journalism and Mass Communication centered around reaching donation milestones.
Individuals can also engage online through social media contests and photo uploads, boosting fundraising efforts with personal challenges. Many departments offer matching gifts, further incentivizing participation. Badger pride and accomplishments are shared throughout the event on various social media platforms.
