The City of Madison Board of Canvassers, adhering to state law, carried out a recount of votes for the District 19 aldermanic race from the April 1 Spring Election. The recount was initiated following a lawful petition by candidate Anthony Nino Amato on April 7, as ordered by Acting Clerk Michael Haas. The recount took place in the Madison Municipal Building and involved a manual tally of ballots from Wards 91, 92, 93, 94, 95, and 96.

Initially, the official results showed a narrow margin of nine votes between the two candidates; John Guequierre had 3,480 votes, while Anthony Nino Amato had 3,471 votes. The recount on April 10 revealed one additional vote for Amato in Ward 94, altering the margin to eight votes. The discrepancy was due to a ballot that the tabulator did not count initially because both candidates were selected, though one name was crossed out. The canvassers, along with the candidates, concluded that the voter intended to vote for Amato.

The result of the recount has been certified by the Board of Canvassers. Amato has decided to waive his right to a court appeal, allowing the Clerk to issue a certificate of election to Guequierre ahead of the April 17 appeal deadline.
