Kromrey Middle School's Green Team participated in the Renew Our Schools Competition, a six-week initiative aimed at promoting energy-saving practices. This event was organized by Focus on Energy and the Wisconsin K-12 Energy Education Program (KEEP).

Students from sixth and eighth grades at Kromrey Middle School focused on analyzing their school's energy usage with the eGauge energy monitoring system. This system helped them track electricity patterns and identify ways to conserve energy without additional costs. The students developed an energy policy and motivated their school community to adopt energy-efficient practices.

Efforts included turning off lights, unplugging unused electronics, using natural light by opening blinds, maintaining thermostat settings, and ensuring projectors were turned off when not used. These actions resulted in energy savings of 10,401 kilowatt-hours, leading to a 12.30% reduction in energy use during the event.

The Green Team secured second place out of 16 schools that participated. Their initiative serves as an example of how young people can drive meaningful change in energy conservation.

The team comprised Chloe Acker, Maya Adams, Kayla Cleaveland, Ansel Freitag, Zoe Koplin, Brenna Lang-Grimsley, Thea Langlois, Amelie Langlois, Apollo Sanner, Eliz Sarlioglu, Ava Simcock, Abby Spaeth, and Lina Weiss. Advisors for the team were Ms. Jenna Peterson and Ms. Maria Pittner.

Congratulations were extended to the Green Team for their excellent contribution to sustainability efforts and for fostering a greener future.
