The Wisconsin Union team has introduced its latest plushie, Colby Miller, now available at Badger Markets located at Memorial Union and Union South, as well as through their online store. Colby features the Union’s trademarked sunburst design on his orange body with soft arms and legs, along with a weighted base for stability. His name pays tribute to his Allis-Chalmers orange color and the milling equipment produced in Wisconsin.

Colby made his first appearance digitally on Wisconsin Union's social media platforms and blog in 2022. He is characterized as an adventurous figure who enjoys living in the moment and trying new activities, such as tasting different foods and engaging in outdoor pursuits.

This plushie is the third installment in the Wisconsin Union’s Chairling line. The first was Maple Fields, introduced in November 2024, followed by Ray Laken in April 2025. These plushies draw inspiration from the iconic metal sunburst Terrace chairs found seasonally at Memorial Union Terrace, a popular lakeside dining spot that has attracted visitors for nearly a century.

The colors of these Chairlings are symbolic of Wisconsin’s agricultural roots and seasonal beauty: John Deere green, Allis-Chalmers orange, and sunshine yellow. Emily Swanson, a graphic designer and production artist at the Wisconsin Union, conceptualized and designed these plushies during her internship while studying at the University of Wisconsin–Madison.

Shauna Breneman, public relations officer for the Wisconsin Union stated: “From his bright orange color to his adorable sunglasses, we hope Chairling plushie Colby Miller brings joy to people’s homes and offices and reminds people of their adventures at the Memorial Union Terrace.”

In addition to plushies, patrons can find other Terrace-themed gifts at Badger Markets or enjoy beverages like Sunburst Sparkler developed with Madison-based Karben4. The Wisconsin Union team currently has no plans to introduce additional Chairling characters beyond those already released.
