The Art Cart, a mobile art studio serving the Madison area since 1975, is celebrating its 50th anniversary. The celebration, organized by Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) and the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art (MMoCA), will take place on Sunday, July 27 from 2 to 5 pm at Vilas Park Shelter.
The event will feature activities for all ages with contributions from Art Cart, Play on the Move, the Madison Children’s Museum, and the Madison Reading Project. A key attraction will be the unveiling of the new Vilas Park Shoe art design. This play structure's design is inspired by “There Was an Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe” nursery rhyme.
Mary Roth, Executive Director of MSCR, stated: “MSCR is proud of this long-standing partnership with MMoCA. Together, our two organizations have created free, high-quality art experiences for thousands of families. Art Cart is fundamental to engaging the next generation with art, exploration and the outdoors.”
Last year, nearly 3,700 community members participated in Art Cart events. This summer aims to reach over 4,000 people through 96 planned events.
